As usual every new PC game has its own set of problems. Although, the much anticipated Watch Dogs works just fine, still there is something to work with. But before we start, please, check whether your hardware fits the minimum system requirements of the game. Also check your PC for viruses, as even the least dangerous ones may prevent you graphics card from working properly.
1. Watch Dogs doesn’t start.
Re-install the game and check the cache through Steam:
- Put the game folder (steamapps/common) and paste anywhere else on your hard drive and give it a different name.
- Delete the contents of the game from your Steam profile.
- Put the game folder back to its original destination and rename it to “Watch_Dogs” again.
- Re-install the game at Steam. After this additional 1.2 Gbytes will appear in the game folder.
2. Watch Dogs crashes. APPCRASH error.
If you play on a laptop and you have an AMD graphics card, then go to the Catalyst Control Center and select the Games tab. Disable the “AMD Radeon Dual Graphics” function.
3. Watch Dogs runs slowly.
- Try fixing the configuration file in “Documents/My Games/Watch Dogs/”.
- Open GamerProfile.xml file in notepad and find DeferredFxQuality=”console”.
- Replace the “console” with “PC”.
- Update your graphics card drivers.
4. Watch Dogs crashes while playing.
Update DirectX and graphics card drivers. The best way to do this is to get the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer (contains DirectX 11 bundle). Disable V-sync in graphics settings of the game.
5. When the game starts “blue screen of death” appears and PC restarts.
- The problem here lies in your graphics card drivers. Again, make sure they are updated.
- Then right-click on the “My Computer” shortcut – select “Properties” – “Advanced System Settings”.
- Select the Advanced tab – “Startup and Recovery”.
- Here you need to select Settings and uncheck “Restart automatically”.

Re-installing DirectX drivers should fix this.
8. ISDONE.DLL error
There are a few solutions to this error.
- Google and download the “isdone.dll” file and replace it in “C:WindowsSystem32” for 32-bit systems and “C:WindowsSysWOW64” for 64-bit systems accordingly. But save the original file somewhere, just in case.
- Open the “Start” menu and type “cmd” in the search and press Enter. In the command line type “regsvr32 isdone.dll” and press Enter.
- Update your DirectX drivers.
9. Steam says that Watch Dogs isn’t out yet.
Restart Steam and check your regional settings.
10. Unable to download Season Pass content.
Make sure that the key was activated through UPlay.
The majority of players confirm that Watch Dogs is stable, but some of them still faced adversity. Since the game was postponed for such a long time just to make it better, it would be natural to assume that all the possible bugs were eliminated. Unfortunately, this is not the case and no surprise, really. As usual, most of these crashes are associated with graphics hardware, and all the different systems and configurations will give PC developers headaches for a long time. Today we tried to fix at least a few larger bugs but if you can’t find the solution in the list above, please, describe your problem in the comments section. We will do our best to help you out.
